Fertility & IVF support

Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture for Fertility

At Oriental Acupuncture Herbal Medicine we provide acupuncture and herbal medicine treatments for couples wanting to conceive. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a long history of helping couples to conceive and this awareness is now widespread all over the world. Chinese medicine and Acupuncture can help to the chances of falling pregnant both naturally or with IVF.

We provide before-and-after acupuncture treatments for any procedures such as egg retrieval (egg pickups) and embryo transfers (ET); the “Paulus” study from 2002 demonstrated that acupuncture performed in the IVF clinic before and after an embryo transfer increased implantation and pregnancy rates.

We understand that this can be a difficult and anxious time for couples, and we are here to provide you with a great deal of care!

Acupuncture and Pregnancy

Acupuncture is a safe and effective form of health-care used to alleviate many of the physical discomforts experienced during pregnancy. Acupuncture can also help new mums prepare their body, mind and emotional self so they are as ready as possible for the birth of their baby and for an efficient postnatal recovery.

During all stage of pregnancy you may want to consider Acupuncture and/or Herbs for:

  • Nausea or morning sickness
  • Pain in pregnancy – back, pelvic, neck and shoulder pain
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Breech and posterior babies
  • Labour preparation

From 35 weeks, acupuncture is used to help encourage the baby to engage, to ripen the cervix and to prepare for an efficient delivery. Moxibustion or moxa helps the baby engage and may be turn breech babies at 32-35 weeks of gestation. Acupuncture and Moxibustion can be very effective in helping strengthen mum’s body, mind and spirit to have an easy postpartum recovery.

Induction

Overdue babies may be induced with acupuncture to help the labour advance.

Postnatal care

Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine may help to support postpartum problems such as insufficient lactation, anaemia, urinary incontinence, prolapse uterus, scar tissue repair, and postnatal depression for the mother.
